"Not by any stretch of the imagination." They were all... different... at Wammy's, but Near was the clear winner when it came to the most cold. He was less emotional than L, even if he was nowhere near as smart. L was the smartest person in the world, Mello was positive of that. He hated that Near had that title now.

"Me too...." he said quietly and shakily. A tear ran down his cheek. He didn't care if Mello saw him cry right now.

Mello watched him, surprised. He felt slightly less angry with Near, but no less angry in general.

He quickly wiped the tear away, still trying to be strong about the situation. "Why did he have to die on us...on the world..."

"He died *for* the world." Mello said after a pause

Near started to cry silently.

Mello crossed his arms and scowled. "Well, you're L now."

"Why can't you be L as well? Because you refuse working together."

"Because you were right before. L failed."

"I WAS STUPID FOR THINKING THAT." He yelled knocking over his buildings. "He couldn't have failed....he never did before...."

Mello stared at Near in surprise. "Then you need to carry on his work." he replied
