An icon blinked at the bottom of his tray table. Finally, a reply! He quickly exited from the NetGo program and opened the email.

L skimmed the message and typed a quick reply, saying he would accept the case. Apparently the killer had struck again, this time leaving a prostitute dead in an alley way.
He closed his laptop and moved Near's head off his shoulder. Getting up off the bed, he walked back towards his desk and grabbed his cell phone.
"I need to get back to work, Mello, so if you could look after Near..." L trailed off as he headed for the door.

Near mumbled in his sleep when L moved his head off his shoulder. He still was sound asleep on L's bed. He hadn't got much sleep last night.

Mello looked down at Near and sighed. Usually this would be an opportunity to draw a pen moustache on Near, but L would think him immature and favour Near as usual...

Near kicked Mello in his sleep by accident. He mumbled in his sleep and turned over on his other side.

Mello flinched, his hand moving instinctively to hit him back, but he managed to stop himself. He leaned forwards and blew out his breath in Near's face to wake him up, sitting up quickly so Near wouldn't know he had woken him.
