Light was on his way inside when he pulled the package from the mailbox. He hadn't been expecting anything and there was no return address. He sighed, heading inside. At least Misa wouldn't be home yet.
Entering the house, he opened the package. Surprised. A cellphone fell out.

L had refrained from sending the package to the taskforce headquarters since he didn't want everyone making a fuss over his non-dead. Rather, he wanted to contact each of the officers individually and go from there.
Hmm, Light should be home by about now. L dialed the phone number.

Light paused, surprised when the phone rang. He picked it up, answering.
"Hello."

Light paused, even though he couldn't say that he was really surprised.
"It's nice to hear from you again, Ryuzaki-kun."

"Of course," L agreed. This time he could spend as long as he wanted on the phone. The cell had a built-in chip that would prevent a call from being traced.

Light paused, looking at his watch. He tried to calculate how long it would be before Misa would be home.
"I wouldn't have long. Misa will be arriving soon."

With another cell phone, L called one of his agents. He held both phones on either side of his face and spoke: "Yes, this is Deneuve. I'd like you to pick up an associate of mine..."
L rattled off the directions -- three blocks west of Light's apartment complex -- and then hung up after reminding the agent to wear a surgical mask and sunglasses.
"So, you've heard the plan, Light-kun. He will drop you off at one of my safe houses. Feel free to bring your laptop with the data."
