The Plot
The RPG is set in a completely unrealistic scenario in which L, Matt, Mello, Takada etc are all still alive, although it is set four years after L's death in the manga. This is done only so that all of these characters can all be alive, and should not interfere with threads.
Creating A Character
To begin with, you need to create a character. You can choose characters from the manga, your own original characters, or semi-original characters, who might be related to someone in the series for example. The most important rule with an RPG is to keep things as realistic as possible. An unrealistic character is no fun for anyone.
If we think that your character is unrealistic or should not be allowed for some reason, then the character won't be approved, and we'll usually give a reason why. Most characters will probably be approved though.
Threads
To start role playing, you need to create a thread. The title should be something relevant to what might happen in the thread, and be followed by the names of the characters invited in brackets.
For example, a thread in Tokyo might be called:
Midnight Ramen (L, Light)
Alternatively, a thread can be open for anyone to RP in.
Midnight Ramen (Open)
Open threads can be limited to only a few characters after a while, and limited threads can be opened up at any time too. Just modify the first post to change the title.
If you forget to add any brackets after the title of your thread, that thread will be modified to be (Open). You are free to modify this again and change it.
When you've finished with a thread, modify the title to indicate that the thread is closed. This way we can move it to the old threads section and keep the boards tidy. Any kind of indication is okay, for example:
Midnight Ramen (Closed)
Midnight Ramen (L, Light) CLOSED
