Mello strode into the dark bar, looking a very different man than he had this morning. His quarry had never seen him before, but he wasn't taking chances, especially with a detective. He'd scraped his hair back in a short ponytail, and was wearing a battered cowboy hat. For once he wasn't wearing leather; he had on a simple shirt and ripped, faded jeans. To finish off his outfit was a pair of muddy boots. He'd paid the most attention to his face, carefully applying make-up to his burn scar to make it look a lot older than it was, and dusted around his eyes to add on a few years. He had also been practising speaking Japanese with a strong American accent.

Matsuda was drinking lightly getting over another day of being pushed around by the rest of the team, at least Light had changed a little. Matsuda smiled at that thought. He was looking round the bar and noticed what looked like an over enthusiastic amercian.

Mello sat himself down next to Matsuda, ordering a pint of lager. He hated the taste of cheap, weak beer, but never mind.

"I'm just a small time building contractor. And you? Smart lookin' young man like you, I'm guessin' maybe a lawyer? Business hot-shot?" he asked, tipping his hat and giving Matsuda a casual smile.

This guy was such an idiot. He was telling Mello everything he needed to know.
