Light looked down. The number showing up on his phone wasn't familiar. He answered it anyways. "Hello?"

L's lips curved upwards in a vicious (well, as vicious as he could look) grin.
"I'm glad Light-kun remembers me. He's done a fine job living on in my name."

Light relaxed. A soft chuckle passed from his lips.
"Without L the world would have no hope, Ryuzaki-kun."

"True enough," L replied, tone non-chalant. He paused, adjusting the volume on his phone. Of course he was recording the conversation. "Light-kun has done some good work in my stead."

L glanced at the time on his laptop. He'd need to hang up in 30 seconds, just in case Light somehow managed to trace his call.

Light whispered into the receiver, and he wasn't lying. He had always felt connected to L, and to know that he was alive... it brought him some semblance of joy.

There was a high chance that the brunet was merely acting, but L could tell there was a smidgen of truth in that statement, if only because Kira would want to be the one responsible for his arch rival's demise. Still, it was amusing to hear Light trying such tactics when L clearly knew the other man's agenda.
"As much as I am enjoying this conversation, I really must attend to some other matters at the moment. Please don't try to contact me, Light-kun. I'll contact you and we can meet up. It'll be a date."
With that, L flipped his cell closed.
