L's expression didn't change and he simply picked up a folder. Inside were pictures of potential Kira supporters crazy enough to gain the Eyes for their 'saviour'.

(Clarice was a rookie detective who visited a prison to ask known serial killer/cannibal Hannibal about a murder case, which he helps her solve. Later he escapes but still keeps in touch with her by sending her gifts and phoning her. In the books, she ends up falling in love with him.)
