Near awoke the next morning at 8:00 am. He didn't feel like getting up, he just lay there staring at the ceiling. He had hoped Mello had not woken up yet.

Near had noticed he was deep in thought. "He must be trying to find a new case that is "'nteresting' for him..." He thought to himself. He peered over at L's computer screen to see what he was working on. He couldn't see that well though.

Mello opened his eyes, and then shut them again before Near saw him. He couldn't be bothered getting up, and he kind of wanted to listen in on the conversation.

Near stretched and yawned. He had a very rough night. "Too many nightmares to count...." He thought, while pondering what his dreams could have meant.

Mello pretended to stretch in his 'sleep,' shuffling so he could peek at Near and L from under the covers without them seeing.

Near rested his head on L's shoulder gently. He thought maybe if he watched him work, their would be a better chance of him becoming the next L.

L was passing the time playing internet Go. He was waiting for a reply from the L.A.P.D. about a question he had on a particular serial murder case. If intriguing enough, he might pick it up as a mini-project as he waited for something more complicated.

Near watched L play Internet Go. He was unaware of Mello watching them and listening to them.

Mello scowled at Near. Did he think that he could win L's approval by cuddling up to him? There was no doubt in Mello's mind that this was what Near was trying to do. He hoped L would see through it.

L had turned his head a little when he felt Near sit up beside him, but figured it wouldn't hurt to show a potential successor a few ropes. It wasn't like the case was confidential at the moment, since he hadn't signed on to it officially yet. Besides, at 8 he had already been doing this type of work. An early start would be good for Near.
L softly began to explain the case, not going into too much detail.
