...L supposed he should have briefed the boy on his new situation before exposing him to the rest of the House.
Oh well. Mello could be trusted. Probably. The blond was probably on a sugar high anyway, and wouldn't remember hearing the name.
"It's for your safety. Everyone here has a codename. Mine's L, his," L said, gesturing at Mello, "is Mello. And yours is Near. Can you remember that?"
Not waiting for the white-haired boy's response, L plodded the both of them over to Mello. He dipped his finger in the bowl of melted chocolate and stuck it in his mouth. Yum.
