"Yes, a test. Sometimes during a case you will need to go undercover. If you break character, then your cover is blown and you've jeopardized the entire investigation. Therefore, I think it will be a good idea to see which of the two of you has the better acting skills."

L smiled, they were always so eager to prove themselves to him. He was counting on it this time.

Near's eyes grew wide. "W-what?" Near had always tried to be nice to Mello. He knew this would be the hardest test he had ever had. He looked down at his feet again biting his lip. He wondered what Mello's responce would be.

L had to hold in a chuckle. Mello's mouth was set in more of a grimace than a smile. Ah well, practice makes perfect, and all that.
